Construction of the Monza Autodrome began in January 1922 at the initiative of the Milan Automobile Club, which decided to mark its 25th anniversary by building its own circuit. Architect Alfredo Roselli designed a 14-kilometer track with an oval,and the work was completed in just 110 days. The official opening took place on September 3,1922, making Monza only the third purpose-built racing circuit in the world.
Throughout its century-long history, the track has witnessed tragic events in 1928 and 1961, serious accidents claimed the lives of drivers and spectators, leading to major changes in layout and enhanced safety measures. After World War II, the circuit was restored, and in 1955 it underwent significant modernization: the famous Parabolica corner was introduced, and speeds reached an impressive 285 km/h for the time.
Over the years, Monza has undergone nine different configurations,with the current layout in use since 2000. The circuit continues to be updated regularly: ahead of the 2024 Grand Prix, the track received new asphalt, several sections were widened, a modern tunnel was constructed, and pedestrian crossings were renovated.
